Lymington v East Dorset – Match Report

Lymington Mariners played their 4th game of the season last Saturday on the 2nd January against East Dorset.
They where again supported by a large number of spectators on this sunny crisp afternoon.
East Dorset came with a reputation having recently dropped down from Hampshire 1 and are undefeated this season in their quest for promotion in the Dorest Leagues.
East Dorset after an impressive and vocal warm up won the toss and made Lymington play uphill. Shortly after the start they caught Lymington alseep and ran in a soft try which they failed to convert. Lymington with some dynamic rucking by Dom Ellis and John West won a penalty which Bryn Darbyshire converted to put us within two points. Shortly after this Lymington missed the oppourtunity to score a try when they had a clear overlap near East Dorset line.
At half time the score was 5-3 to East Dorset with Lymington having the advantage of the slope to look forward to. Unfortunatley Lymington where caught sleeping again and East Dorset scored and converted a well taken try to make the score 12-3. Lymington then took control of the game and had all the territory and possession with some outstanding work by Stuart West and Owen Cavell. Simon Nuding broke several tackles to go over the line and score a great individual try , unfortunatley we failed to convert this.Bryn Darbyshire chased their break away winger and made an outstanding tackle to save a definite East Dorest try, he then kicked two penalties to bring the score to 11-12 and was easily Man of the Match . Lymington where camped for the last 20 minutes in East Dorset 22 and missed 2 kicks to win the game. This was a tough game played in a good spirit and was enjoyed by players and spectalors alike. Most certainly Lymingtons strongest test and best performance to date.
